2 Introduction

The course aims at obtaining proper knowledge and skills about conducting academic research at a graduate student level. Students will be acquire some statistical knowledge and skills such as t-tests, chi-square test, ANOVA, regression, etc. They will also need to be familiar with general ideas about research procedures such as inquiring and finding proper materials from some databases that provide authentic research materials.

3 Course organization

  • Discussions on readings
  • Discussion on student's own research design, which will include
    • Investigating previous studies related your research topics and interests
    • Developing and articulating your research topic
    • Developing research questions and building hypotheses
    • Designing the research study
    • Conducting the research
    • Treating and analyzing data and summing up the findings
    • Articulating your research efforts

4 Assignments, quizzes, & examinations

  • Two major articles, which will be equivalent to mid and final exam.
  • Ten minor essay articles
  • There will be four quizzes.

5 Evaluation

  1. 10 research essay papers: 40%
  2. 2 mid, final paper: 30%
  3. 4 quizes: 20%
  4. Others: 10%
